In researching a career-related project, I visited HotJobs. Since I was already signed into my Yahoo! account and at some point had submitted a resume (“Sr Java Developer” – that’s how long it’s been!), it had some great recommendations for me: Apparently I am completely barking up the wrong tree with this computer stuff!
If you've ever deleted a file when you should have really sent it to Recycle Bin, perhaps you have an idea of how I felt last night when I deleted 1GB worth of video files for my older son's school project. First I "lost" about a dozen files. I still have no idea what went wrong. Windows Movie Maker all of a sudden showed X's for clips. The containing folder was just empty. I had imported some additional videos into a subfolder of that one using Picasa, but I can't imagine it would just wipe out the parent during an...
My updates have been way too infrequent lately! A week and a half ago I flew out to Seattle/Redmond for my first visit to the Microsoft campus. I got to meet a few people face-to-face and get security stuff setup. While I was out there, I visited a number of places around town with my friend Patrick Barnes. It was a good but rushed visit, though at least I got a good number of pictures. I've posted some of my better ones on my Zooomr account. I
Last Sunday night we went to the first big concert we've ever been to as a family. We've been to a number of classical, jazz, world, and other shows in the past few years, but never to a big-name concert in a larger venue. My boys love this particular artist, and listen to his music all the time. They don't listen to a whole lot of bands yet, so this is a large part of their personal musical exposure at this point. Any idea who this is? I hope that you recognize him as "Weird Al" Yankovic! My...
The Matrix trilogy was one of the most exciting movie series I've ever enjoyed. The fresh story, the great effects, and the general atmosphere was just something else. V for Vendetta was alright (not really a worth successor though...), so I've wondered for some time now what the Wachowski brothers will do next, and it looks like I must have missed the announcement! They are directing Speed Racer. It's not a cartoon though, it's all live action and it sounds like they are pushing the envelope again. Some new kind of camera will capture every element in the scene in...
Great title, huh? I love rechargeable batteries. I hate the idea of throwing away batteries all the time, and in a house full of toys and gadgets (well, I guess toys is the right word either way!) we sure use a lot of them. Going rechargeable means that we can always reach into the drawer and find fresh batteries. Of course they aren't as cheap as conventional alkaline batteries. Heck, before we went rechargeable we got a 25 pack of AA's for $5. Were they Duracell? No, but they sure seemed to last long enough. Now I buy 2600mAh AA...

So we were at our local Asian food market the other day (Chang's Food Market) and came across something that I am assuming must mean "Giant Freakin' Jelly Bean Tapioca." Or something like that anyway. These are huge, about 2/3" across. If the size isn't enough to scare you, the alarmingly bright colors should do the trick! My boys love tapioca, and they love jelly beans. Of course we had to pick up a pack! I admit I'd like to try them. It's just $1.49 for this 250g package. Seems like a steal! We're going to try them tonight, so we'll...
