Fun

Oooh! A Gamong machine!

Not to be too annoyingly persnickety (gotta love that word!) but I had to capture this wonderful ad showing on Buy.com this morning.  Who wouldn't want to customize their own gamong PC?  Or is Gamong an ethnicity perhaps and I just offended someone...  Doh!

Minesweeper the Movie

I came across a great spoof movie trailer today and I thought I'd share it.  It's very original and well-done.  You'll never look at Minesweeper the same way again!

Joost

OK.  Now I'm curious.  The Joost streaming video service sounds really cool.  If I remember right, it's from the same people that made Kazaa, then Skype.  TV-like features in streaming form.  Of course there have been similar efforts before, but they're never all that great in the end.  If anyone has any invites, I'd be grateful if you sent one my way! UPDATE: Thanks a million to Matt who set me up with an invite!  After I have some time to play with it I'll blog about the experience.  So far, it's pretty cool.  Definitely avoid full-screen though for now...

A whole new look

Starting with my most recent Coding 4 Fun article (Photo Screensaver), you may notice that I now have an avatar in my bio.  This is courtesy of Matt Van Dinter, and is very cool.  It captures me perfectly, and lets me include a a visual without scaring anyone!  I've always had to settle for stock avatars before, but now I join the elite with my own custom one.  Thanks Matt!

Google Calendar Hacked?

I logged onto Google Calendar tonight to see this: Notice the interesting replacement for the Google Calendar logo!  It isn't actually a link to the mentioned site so the hack failed for that reason, but very interesting nonetheless!  I've never actually seen a live Google hack before, so I guess I'm lucky!

Awesome Christmas light display

Sean Alexander has created an awesome house light display synchronized to music.  This would be so much work, not just for the stringing of lights, and the installing of the controllers, but then to coordinate the lights along with the music!  We usually have icicles hanging from the gutters.  Yeah, maybe we could do more! http://blog.seanalexander.com/PermaLink,guid,4a5482c0-8263-40eb-8b07-ec801ebfc355.aspx

Google maps are awesome!

Well it looks like Google has done it again. Their new Maps feature (still in beta) is a formidable opponent to the other online map offerings. I'm primarily familiar with MSN Maps and Mapquest so I can't comment on all of them, but Google is the best I've seen so far. It has such an uncluttered interface. No ads to be seen at this point. Of course, still being beta might just mean that the ads aren't ready yet, but for now it sure is nice! I always like how MSN Maps did an instant zoom...
