Acer Aspire One and Windows 7

Tags: windows7

Well, despite my previous post to the contrary, I have periodic issues with the Atheros networking drivers on my Aspire One.   They worked most of the time under Vista.   They work rarely under Windows 7.   The wireless device either simply disappears or just won't connect to anything.   The Windows troubleshooting/repair functions do nothing to fix it.   I have no idea what I need to do, except, I suspect I'll need to wait for newer drivers.   Atheros doesn't seem to offer direct downloads for what I need, so this is a severe slam for the Aspire at this point!

By the way, many people ask where to get the downloads for the Aspire One at all.   There are two places.   A nice HTML-based downloads page, and an FTP site.   I just haven't had more time to track down this issue, but surely there is a better driver out there somewhere!   If anyone finds it, feel free to let me know.   :-)

You have to turn off the option of auto-turn off of the wireless device to save power thats the problem, look for the option.<br />Sorry for my english.

Hey Arian<br />I had the same problem you mentioned in this blog, My wife's toy, the Acer AspireONE I got her for christmas, I installed Win 7 (cause the Win XP home sucks) and set it up on my home network so she could access my wireless printer, but like you said, the wireless network constantly died. so I ran my own skills in testing and troubleshooting to find a solution. <br /><br />This is what I found that works;<br />Atheros AR5xxx Series Wireless Network Driver 7.6.1.122 Windows 2000/XP(x32/x64)/Vista(x32/x64) from Atheros Network .<br />the Wireless card on the Aspire is the Atheros AR5xB65, little mini card. It now works perfectly.<br /><br />Here is a link to D/L<br /><a rel="nofollow external" href="http://www.driversdown.com/Download.asp?ID=107576&Url=http://down3.driversdown.com/Network/atheros_ar5xxx_7.6.1.122.zip" title="http://www.driversdown.com/Download.asp?ID=107576&Url=http://down3.driversdown.com/Network/atheros_ar5xxx_7.6.1.122.zip">www.driversdown.com/.../...os_ar5xxx_7.6.1.122.zip</a><br />That site also has others, newer ones, but they had the same problems.<br /><br />Hope this helps.<br />Also, Can I ask you a favor, VB coding, I aint no expert, I am trying to create an app that I can use to scan folders and get file names and MD5 info to add to existing document. Can you help??<br /><br />Thanks<br />LarryLaser<br />

The EEEpc uses the same Wifi card and is known to work with Vista. If turning the power savings off does not work, download them.
